Last week I had the good fortune to speak at The Lincoln Forum at Gettysburg. The Lincoln Forum has become a central Lincoln conference every year. The 14th annual Forum featured presentations by some of the leading Lincoln authors who published books in 2009. Jim McPherson, Richard Carwardine, Catherine Clinton, Vernon Burton and Fred Kaplan were some of the speakers at this year’s Forum attended by nearly three hundred persons from all across the United States. I spoke on Abraham Lincoln 2009: Wisdom for Today on November 17. At the Gettysburg National Cemetery, Actor Richard Dreyfuss recited the Gettysburg Address on November 19 — the 146th anniversary of Lincoln’s speech commemorating the battle. It was a delight to have the chance to participate in the The Lincoln Forum and it was a real capstone to what has been a remarkable Lincoln Bicentennial year!
